CRI听力:China Calls on Ukraine to Stick to Minsk Agreement
China has called on all parties in Ukraine to stick to the Minsk agreement to ensure the implementation of a ceasefire.
Wang Min, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN made the appeal at the UN Security Council meeting over Ukraine.
The meeting comes as Ukraine says it is redeploying troops in the east out of fears that rebels will launch a new military offensive.
Wang says China believes that a political solution is the only way out on the question of Ukraine.
Jens Anders Toyberg-Frandzen, the U.N.'s Interim Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, says tension in the region is rising.
"Currently, the security situation in Donetsk and Luhansk almost rivals the period immediately preceding the ceasefire agreement of 5 September. Citing credible threats from the rebel leadership that they would launch a new offensive."
The tension has escalated since Ukrainian authorities decided to repeal the law which grants special status to Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
As a response, rebel leaders have said they will not observe the Minsk peace protocol.
The United States has accused Russia of sending troops to reinforce the rebels, a claim Russia denies.
