CRI听力:China Holds First World Internet Conference, Urges Better Governance
Shared internet governance and cyber security have been topping the agenda at the World Internet Conference being held in the Chinese town of Wuzhen this week.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, currently on a tour in the southern Hemisphere, has sent a note to the conference, calling for broader international cooperation to uphold cyber security.
The head of China's Cyberspace Administration is Lu Wei.
"Let's move towards consensus. We need to strengthen communication, seek common interests to establish a multilateral, democratic and transparent international internet governance system. We need to work together to build a peaceful, safe and cooperative cyberspace."
The conference is playing host to around a thousand people from over 100 different countries and regions.
Alibaba founder Jack Ma is among them.
"I believe China's internet is not only profoundly influencing aspects of China's society and economy, but is also participating in the development of the internet across the world and has also created unique value for the development of the world's internet."
Executives from global tech firms such as Apple, Amazon, Google and Facebook are also taking part in the event, which runs until tomorrow.
