CRI听力:NATO Creates Quick-reaction Force to Counter Russia
NATO has approved the creation of a new interim quick-reaction military force.
The alliance says the first units of the quick-reaction force will be available next year.
NATO expects the interim force will be replaced by a permanent force in 2016.
The move comes amid the continued dispute between NATO and Russia over the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg.
"We strongly condemn Russia's continued and deliberate destabilisation of Ukraine, including the provision of advanced equipment, weapons and military personnel, and we also condemn Russia's actions, which are undermining the security of Ukraine and have serious implications for the stability and the security of the entire Euro-Atlantic area."
NATO is also calling on Russia to withdraw its troops from along Ukraine's border.
The European-North American alliance has long accused Russia of providing arms and other assistance to separatist forces in eastern Ukraine, a charge Moscow continues to deny.
