CRI听力:Admiralty Protesters Given Thursday Deadline to Leave

Bailiffs are due to begin clearing three sections of the main Admiralty protest site on Thursday morning under a High Court injunction.

Court notices have since been posted in the area, which is in the heart of Hong Kong's business district, and close to the government headquarters.

Authorities are asking protesters to leave voluntarily before the deadline hits.

A number of protesters have already left the area, shifting their camps to nearby streets.

But Hong Kong Police say they will seek to clear all occupied areas in Admiralty on Thursday.

Cheung Tak-keung is with Hong Kong Police.

"After helping bailiffs execute the injunctions on Thursday, we will remove the barriers in Admiralty and Central and reopen nearby roads. As to the illegal occupied area in Causeway Bay, the police will clear the site at an appropriate time afterward. "

Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung says police will continue to use minimal force in the clearance of both the Admiralty and Causeway Bay Occupy camps.

At the same time, he is appealing to his fellow lawmakers to put aside their differences to support Hong Kong's long term interests.

"Every lawmaker should be responsible for their voters as well as all residents in Hong Kong. Political reform is significant, and if a minority of lawmakers veto the new framework, 5-million eligible voters in Hong Kong will be deprived of their right to choose the next Chief Executive by 'one person, one vote'. "

The proposal laid down by the central government requires a two-thirds' majority in the legislative council to pass.

And while admitting that getting a two-thirds majority won't be easy, CY Leung says he's doing his best to try to get lawmakers in Hong Kong to reach a consensus.
