CRI听力:IS Captures Jordanian Pilot after Warplane Crashes in Syria
Islamic State fighters have taken a Jordanian pilot prisoner after his warplane came down in northeastern Syria.
Twenty-seven-year-old First Lieutenant Muath al-Kasaesbeh has become the first captive taken from the U.S.-led coalition battling the jihadi group.
Jordan's armed forces says a pilot was captured after a coalition air raid over the province of Raqqa.
"As a number of the Jordanian Royal Air Force warplanes were conducting a military mission against targets of the Islamic State in Raqqa in Syria on Wednesday morning, one of the airplanes was downed and its pilot was taken hostage by the Islamic State terrorist group."
Raqqa province, which borders Turkey, is almost entirely under the control of Islamic State fighters.
There are contradictory accounts as to whether the aircraft was shot down.
IS militants say they shot down the plane with a heat-seeking missile.
However, US officials claim the evidence clearly indicates that this is not true. They add that no U.S. aircraft or personnel are involved in the incident.
