CRI听力:Moscow Talks over Ukraine End without Deal

The leaders of Germany and France have ended more than five hours of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin without any word of an agreement to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande arrived in Moscow earlier for meeting with Putin to discuss a ceasefire in Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says the leaders have agreed to talks to continue working towards a possible joint document on implementing a ceasefire deal reached in Minsk last September.

"The document would include proposals of the Ukrainian president and proposals formulated and added today by the President of the Russian Federation Putin in order, of course, to further present this text and these proposals for approval of all parties in the conflict."

The three leaders' next contact is expected to be made by phone on Sunday.

The talks come as rebels and the government forces agreed on a humanitarian corridor to evacuate civilians from Debaltseve, at the heart of the latest fighting in eastern Ukraine.

The key railway hub which located between the two main rebel-controlled cities of Donetsk and Luhansk has been caught up in crossfire.

Residents have been left without power and running water for almost two weeks.

Daria Morozova is a rebel official in charge of humanitarian affairs.

"Today we are carrying out the evacuation of Debaltseve. We agreed with the Ukrainian side that this would be done jointly to give people the right to have a choice to go to the Ukrainian side or to go to Donetsk."

The UN says the clashes have left nearly 5,400 people dead since last April.

Earlier this week, US Secretary of State John Kerry also arrived in Kiev for talks focusing on the possibility of providing better weaponry to the government forces, an option opposed by European nations.
