"As one of Asia's oldest and largest film festivals, the Hong Kong International Film Festival is widely recognized for promoting film culture to local and international audiences by showcasing the latest work and classics of cinema every year."
Hong Kong Commerce and Economic development secretary Gregory So says Hong Kong has a lot to offer to the film industry.
"On top of good actors, Hong Kong also has everything from filming to post-production, as well as advanced technology and services. The unique landscape, rich traditional culture, and the diversity of lifestyles, have all contributed to Hong Kong to be an ideal city to shoot movies."
This year's Hong Kong Film Festival has also drawn the film industry's critics and pundits.
One of the areas under discussion is the development and adaptation of "new media" into the film industry.
Tom Ara is a shareholder of entertainment and media law firm Greenberg Traurig.
"Under the studio 2.0 model, the online platform has direct access to the subscriber. They know what that subscriber is watching, when they are watching it, they know where they live geographically, and they know what kind of movies they like and they suggestions. Based on all the matrix and some people refer to as big data, the platform can determine what to serve their audience. "
This year's Hong Kong International Film Festival will include a mix of art house dramas, big-budget movies, as well as rarely seen classics.
A series of seminars are also scheduled.
