CRI听力:First MH370 Compensation Case Settled
The first legal case against Malaysia Airlines and the Malaysian government has been settled, over one year after MH370 went missing.
The two sons of a Malaysian passenger have secured an out-of-court settlement.
Arunan Selvaraj, the boys' lawyer, says their mother has decided to accept compensation on their behalf.
"Our client, having considered her rights and her legal position, has decided to accept the compensation and move on with her life. We need to move forward. Unfortunately we cannot reveal the amount because it's confidential and is agreed by all parties and that was advised by the judge as well."
The flight was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with nearly 240 people on board when it disappeared March 8 last year.
Most of the passengers were Chinese.
Malaysian authorities believe it crashed in a remote part of the southern Indian Ocean.
A search is still ongoing.
Malaysia Airlines has begun the process of paying compensation after the Malaysian government declared the jet's disappearance an accident.
Arunan also declines to say whether the compensation was more than the family's entitlement under the Montreal Convention, which governs liabilities from airline disasters.
