2015-06-05来源:CRI

Internet security, as an issue, is increasingly prominent, and the breakdown of two popular web services has drawn the public's attention to the ability of companies' to prevent disasters.

At the end of last month, China's largest mobile payment platform, Alipay, was offline for two hours because a fiber optic cable was cut accidentally at a construction site.

The next day, Ctrip, China's leading online travel agency, was offline for 12 hours. Ctrip later announced the service interruption was caused by a mistake made by the company's own staff.

But mistakes are not the only problems for web-based companies and consumers. Online attacks are rampant.

A report by the Security Department of Ali Group shows its network virus sample database saw an increase of over 1.7 million new virus samples in the first quarter, increasing 170% from a quarter earlier. It also shows one out of 7.5 android devices are infected. Almost all popular apps have security flaws.

Du Yuejin, Vice President of the Security Department at Alibaba, says it's important for the industry to raise security awareness.

"As companies, we should try to work out a safer mobile app, a whole program system to guarantee the consumers' interests. It's important for the whole industry to realize the significance of security."

Hackers not only break down their targeted internet, but also steal people's personal information and then use that data to defraud those citizens.

To make things worse, the public's awareness on fraud is weak. A report by the office of the Central Leading Group for Cyberspace Affairs shows only 12 percent victims will report the fraud to police in time.

Zhao Gang, deputy director of the Information Security Management and Operation Center at China Mobile, says China's telecom carriers need more legal support to handle fraud cases.

"We discovered several cases of fake base stations in the past. But according to related laws and regulations, violators became free after paying fines of only 2000 RMB. Last year, a judicial interpretation allowed a clause called 'illegal business practice,' acknowledging the fake base stations as a breach of public telecom facilities. With these regulations, nearly 3000 cases have been handled and the highest penalty is three years in prison. "

China Cybersecurity Week aims to set up a safe and civilized internet in China. The first session was held last November.
