CRI听力:Zheng Saisai Reaches Second Round at Australian Open
Rising Chinese tennis ace Zheng Saisai has powered her way into the second round of the Australian Open, blowing past Germany's Carina Witthoelt in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
The 21-year-old will next take on the UK's Johanna Konta.
The unseeded Konta created yet another upset in the Women's Singles draw, blowing past 8th seed Venus Williams in dramatic fashion, 6-4, 6-2.
"I think it would be silly to look at Venus' age and somehow consider that as a reflection of her level. I think it's irrelevant how old she is because she's such a champion with so much experience and so much knowledge about the game. Even if she's playing with one leg out there, you've got to really take care of things on your own, because, yeah, no, she's an incredible player. I have all the respect for her in the world. Yeah, I was just very, really enjoying my time out there."
Expectations for Venus Williams had been high in Melbourne, as the 35-year old had been going through a late-season renaissance last year, earning a number of victories and making her way into the World Top-10 for the first time in years.
Another seed, 32nd ranked Caroline Garcia of France, went down to the Czech Republic's Barbara Strykova in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-4.
The rest of the other top players have made it though with relatively little problems.
7th seeded Angelique Kerber did have to survive a 2nd set tie-breaker to get past Japan's Misaki Doi 6-7, 7-6, 6-2.
