The 27-year old Zhang Shuai of China has knocked off 2nd seeded Romanian Simona Halep in her first-round match, 6-4, 6-3.
It's the first time Zhang Shuai, currently ranked 133rd in the world, has made it past the first round of a Grand Slam tournament.
"I didn't think in two months I can win the top-two player. Feeling like dream coming true, yeah," says Zhang Shuai.
Ranked as high as 30th in the world this past season, Zhang Shuai had to go through the qualifiers this year to compete in Melbourne.
Zhang Shuai's competition in the 2nd round isn't going to be much easier, as she's set to take on France's Alize Cornet, who just missed out on being seeded at this year's tournament as the world's number-33.
