CRI听力:Angelique Kerber Upsets Serena Williams to Win Australian Open

2016-01-31来源:CRI

Germany's Angelique Kerber has shocked the tennis world, downing Serena Williams 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to win her first-ever Grand Slam title.

With the win, the 28-year-old German also moves up to 2nd place in WTA world rankings.

"I was trying to believe much more in myself. You know, when I won the first set, when I won against (Victoria) Azarenka, that shows me that I really am a good player and I can show it as well on the big courts. You know, I was not playing very good last year on the big tournaments. This is the first big tournament of the year, and I won it, the first Grand Slam. It sounds crazy, but I can say I'm a Grand Slam champion now."

Losing the final, 34-year-old Williams failed winning her 7th Melbourne Park title and 22nd overall, which would have moved her into a tie with Steffi Graf for the most grand slam singles titles in the Open era.

"It's interesting. I mean, every time I walk in this room, everyone expects me to win every single match, every single day of my life. As much as I would like to be a robot, I'm not. I try to. But, you know, I do the best that I can. I try to win every single time I step out there, every single point, but realistically I can't do it. Maybe someone else can, but I wasn't able to do it," says Williams.
