2016-03-11来源:CRI

World 15-hundred meter world champion Abeba Aregawi has become the latest athlete to test positive for Meldonium.

Toralf Nilsson is the chair of teh Swedish Athletic Association.

"The first time I saw the result of the B test was through a tweet. The Swedish television had got the information in Lausanne directly from Jos Hermens. At that time the Swedish Athletic Association was still not been informed by IOF which Stefan (Olsson, General Secretary) explained earlier today. As 99 point whatever per cent of all B tests show the same as the A test I was not surprised at the result of the B test."

Doctor Sverker Nilsson with Sweden's Athletic Association says Aregawi's stature will not protect her from sanctions.

"If she is banned four years, we will ban her four years more from participating for Sweden."

This comes just days after Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova announced she test positive for Meldonium, which she claims she had been taking for 10 years for health issues.

Russian ice dancer Ekaterina Bobrova and her partner have been pulled from the forthcoming World Figure-Skating Championships also due to a positive test for Meldonium.

Meldonium was put on the banned list by the World Anti-Doping Agency just this year.

The drug was widely prescribed in Russia and countries in the former Soviet Union has a medication for heart issues.

However, its also known to enhance endurance among athletes.
