Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff is being - temporarily at least - forced out of office.

55 of 81 Brazilian sentators have voted to begin impeachment proceedings against Rousseff.

This means she will have to relinquish her position until the impeachment process is finished.

Brazilian sentators have up to 6-months to get those impeachment proceedings going.

In the interim, vice-President Michel Temer will take over as Brazil interim-President.

Rousseff finds herself in this position amid accusations her government knowingly falsified budget documents to obscure a massive deficit her administration was running ahead of her re-election.

For more on the political situation in Brazil, the Beijing Hour's Paul James caught up with Professor Yang Zhimin, Deputy Director of the Institute of Latin American Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
