CRI听力:Trudeau: time to revive Canada-China ties
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is now in Shanghai ahead of his trip to Hangzhou for the G20 Summit.
As part of his time in Shanghai, Trudeau has attended a banquet hosted by the Canada-China Business Council.
Addressing the banquet, Trudeau says he's hoping to revive a relationship between Canada and China that cooled during his predecessor's tenure.
"First and foremost, this visit is about renewing and deepening the relationship between the people of Canada and the people of China. As you know, it's a relationship that historically has been close, warm but more recent have been a little more distant or unfocused. So I want to be clear as I possibly can be on this point. China matters to Canada."
This is Trudeau's first visit to China since taking office in November.
The mayor of Shanghai was among the dignitaries taking part in the banquet.
For more on the relationship between China and Canada, CRI's Doris Wang spoke to former premier of the Canadian province of Quebec, Jean Charest.
