Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has confirmed it is carrying out work toward a possible banking license.
JD.com is reportedly working on plans with a traditional bank in China to open a 'direct' banking operation.
Direct banks offer online and telephone banking services, as well as ATMs, mail, and mobile banking options, but without physical branches.
For more on JD.com's reported move, we're joined live by Mike Bastin, Director of the China Business Center at Southampton Solent University in Britain.
