With 90 thousand people, Seychelles is the world's smallest island, located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of East Africa and northeast of Madagascar.
Seychelles recently signed on to the Belt and Road Initiative, and brokered two deals with China worth 450 million yuan, under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
During a sit-down interview, my colleague Xu Yawen had a talk with Ambassador Maurice Loustau-Lalanne, Seychelle's Minister for Finance, Trade, Investment, and Economic Planning. He reveals what motivated the nation to join the BRI, why it approached Chinese banks, and what’s behind the growing relationship between China and Seychelles.
