CRI听力:Zhang Ziyi absent from Beijing promotion for The Wasted Times

Zhang Ziyi was absent from a promotional event in Beijing for an upcoming film The Wasted Times.

Zhang Ziyi co-stars with veteran actor Ge You in the film, which is set in Shanghai during the chaotic, war-torn 1930s and tells a tale of love, hatred, and betrayal.

The thriller, directed by up-and-coming director Cheng Er, boasts a star-studded cast which includes famous Japanese actor Asano Tadonobu, Chinese celebrity couple Huo Siyan and Du Jiang, as well as Chinese actress Yuan Quan and Yan Ni.

Yan Ni did attend the promotion and described her role in the film.

"My role is a woman of dignity and unbending principle, who prefers death on her feet to living on her knees. Even when she was shot, she wanted to commission someone to help her finish the rest of the work. She has a unique and charming personality."

The Wasted Times is due for release in Chinese theaters in two weeks' time.
