M: OK. So, if no one has any other questions about the major essay let’s move on. Continuing with the theme of organized religion and spirituality in different societies Lorna and Louis have prepared a seminar on the place of pray in contemporary Australian society. Lorna.
Lorna: A lot of people acquire pray with some kind of organized religion and assume that if they aren’t part of a church they don’t pray. In fact many people pray without knowing it. How often have you with the help and face if life challenges or at a thank you when the situation is going your way. If seems that many of us pray without being aware of it.
Louis: New research has found that 69 percent of people have prayed at some time in their lives. But only 60 percent believe in a higher being such as God. As you can see in this graph, based on the results of the last Australian government’s sensus, there has been a declining of the number of people joining organized religions. It seems that Australians are looking for more private ways to express their spiritual side.
Lorna: Yes, I am prayer allows to do this. Doctor Alexander Piper has done a lot of studies on this subject, and believes that there are many benefits of praying. He says that if people make prayer part of their daily lives, they can learn to understand what they really want. This knowledge allows people to focus on the things that make them happy.
Louis: Doctor Piper also believes that it helps us to have better relationships with other people. Other researchers have done studies that suggest that prayer helps people develop confidence and strain. Let’s take a look at one particular study conducted by daily and stay in 2003.
