华尔街英语高级Lesson 48

Why do you keep staring at me?
Maybe it’s because you’re nice to look at, Melissa.
So are you, David.
Oh, that was an amazing meal? I love Greek food, and Greek wine, and Greek music.
And Greek people?
Greek people most of all. They’re so warm.
That’s right.
I had a great vacation in Greece with a girlfriend once- before I got married.
You must come and stay with me sometime.
Yeah, that’s a nice idea.
Let me tell you about my dream. Someday I’m going to buy a villa on one of the Greek islands and I’ll invite all my boyfriends to stay with me.
What?
They’ll bring their girlfriends, and their girlfriends will bring all their boyfriends. And we can all eat and drink wine, and swim in the blue Aegean Sea, and we’ll all be happy in the sunshine together, and no one will be jealous of anyone.
How are you going to manage that?
David, it’s ridiculous that people should be jealous of each other! We should be able to love anyone we like, anytime we like.
If there was more love in the world there would be less violence.
Hmm. It sounds great in theory, but I don’t think it would work out in practice.
But that’s because people treat each other as objects, as if they were possessions!
We can never own another person! It’s just not possible.
It’s easy enough for you to say that. You’re not married.
No, of course not! Freedom is more important to me than security. Without freedom life isn’t worth living.
I suppose not. Mind  I if I have a bit more wine?
Help yourself.
Look, we seem to be having a very serious discussion, for some reason. Can we change the subject?
Sure. Well, at least your wife understands now.
Understands what?
That you need other companionship, as well as hers.
She doesn’t understand anything. She’s just gone away to Mexico for a while, that’s all.
Then you must tell her about us as soon as she gets back.
About us? But --- nothing’ s happened yet.
Not yet, no. Hey, what about your little girl?
Oh, Juanita’s taken her to Mexico, fortunately.
So, you don’t need to go home tonight, then?
No, I don't.
That’s convenient, isn’t it…?
