President Barack Obama is defending his plans to tighten gun control restrictions. Speaking from the Oval office, Obama said the steps he'll announce are within his legal authority, while he's offered few details on what those actions might be. Behind the scene, officials have been preparing to expand background checks on gun sales.

In San Bernardino, employees returned to the site of last month's terror attack. It's the first time most of the workers have set foot on the complex since the attack. Security guards check the IDs and now the center is surrounded by by a fence.

In the U.S and around the globe, stocks fell on 2016's first day of trading. Investors dumped shares on new fears of a Chinese economic slowdown and more turmoil in the Middle East.

A needed trim for a sheep named Sheila. For 6 years, she was lost in the dense forest of Tasmania. But then she was rescued with a fleece so large she couldn't move. On Monday, she was sheared, setting 46 pounds.
