The Iraq war veteran accused of killing five travelers at a Florida airport was charged Saturday and could face the death penalty. The Anchorage police chief said police seized a gun from Esteban Santiago when he visited an FBI office in Alaska in November, then returned it the next month.

Much of the United States was hit with icy roads and snowy conditions Saturday. In Connecticut the snow led to a 20-car pile-up along a highway. The crash included three trucks and two ruptured fuel tanks. There were up to ten injuries.

Chaos erupted in the rebel-held Syrian town of Azaz, along the border of Turkey on Saturday, after activists say a car bomb ripped through the center of a busy commercial area. The blast killed at least 48 people.

A sculptor in far-eastern Russia has made a giant manure rooster for the Chinese Zodiac-year. The 11-foot sculpture was created using a metal frame that’s then covered in manure. The year of the rooster begins on January 28th.
