President Donald Trump said he wants to see "free, fair and reciprocal trade with Japan" as he sat down with the country's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate. Officials signaled Trump is open to considering exempting Japan from new steel and aluminum tariffs that Abe opposes.
Trump also says a "good relationship was formed" when his CIA Chief met with Kim Jong Un in North Korea to prepare for a historic summit. Republican lawmakers support the diplomacy and push for Mike Pompeo's rapid confirmation as Secretary of State, but democrats are lining up against him.
Cuban officials have selected 57-year-old First Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel as the sole candidate to succeed Raul Castro as President of Cuba. It's the centerpiece of an effort to ensure that the country's single-party system outlasts the aging revolutionaries who created it.
A photograph of former first lady, Barbara Bush went on display at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. following her death on Tuesday. Presidents, first ladies and many others who knew the former first lady are praising her devotion to the nation, her family and literacy.
