With coronavirus deaths climbing rapidly in New York, the governor Andrew Cuomo announced Friday he will use his authority to take ventilators and protective gear from private hospitals and companies that aren’t using them. Meanwhile, New York State tallied its biggest daily jump yet in deaths. Almost 15-thousand remained hospitalized.
Passengers on an illfated cruise ship were finally allowed to disembark, touching dry land for the first time in weeks. 14 critically ill passengers were sent to Florida hospitals. Those healthy enough to travel were taken on buses to the airport with instructions to immediately go into self quarantine.
In Chicago, a section of the city's largest convention center is being converted to treat coronavirus patients with mild symptoms. The exhibit space at the Mccormick Place Convention Center has five hundred beds currently available with many more planned.
And American soul singer Bill Withers, the man behind the 1970s classics " Lean on me" and "Ain't no sunshine" has died of heart complications at 81.
