President Donald Trump is bemoaning the number of Americans who have died due to the coronavirus, while also pointing signs of hope. The President says "in the midst of grief of pain" the country is seeing "clear signs our aggressive strategy" is working.
New York governor Andrew Cuomo provided a mix of grim and encouraging numbers about the coronavirus outbreak in the Empire State. The state recorded 777 new deaths, down slightly from the day before. Cuomo said the number of people in intensive care is down for the first time since March and hospitalizations are slowing.
The head of the World Health Organization is warning of a resurgence of coronavirus deaths if countries move too quickly to lift stay-at-home and other restrictions. According to a Johns Hopkins University study, the worldwide death toll from the virus has now reached 100,000.
The iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, still damaged by fire, came back to life on Good Friday, but just briefly. The French capital archbishop, joined by just a handful of clergymen, wore hardhats as they entered the Cathedral and then held a Good Friday Celebration.
