Thousands of Haitian migrants are crossing the Rio Grande into the small town of Del Rio, Texas, assembling in and around a bridge. Local officials say the vast majority of the estimated 12,000 migrants at the bridge on Friday are Haitians.

An influential federal advisory panel has rejected a plan to offer Pfizer booster shots against COVID-19 to most Americans. Members of the Food and Drug Administration panel of ouside experts voiced frustration that Pfizer had provided little data on the safety of extra doses.

Allies of Donald Trump plan a Saturday rally at the U.S. Capitol, aimed at supporting what they call the "political prisoners" of the Jan. 6 insurrection. Enhanced security is in place after police were criticized as uNPRepared in January.

Firefighters are wrapping some giant trees in aluminum to protect them from a lightning-caused wildfire in California's Sequoia National Park. A wildfire in the region last year killed thousands of sequoias, some of them as tall as high-rises and thousands of years old.
