United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the suicide bomb attack on the Iraqi parliament on Thursday. One member of the Parliament was killed in the explosion which occurred in the parliament's cafeteria within the heavily fortified green zone compound in Baghdad. The fifteen-member UN Security Council issued a statement condemning in the strongest terms what it called the terrorist attack targeting the democraticly-elected council of representatives. Terrorism constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, said the statement, and any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable. All countries in the United Nations were reminded of their obligation to cooperate with the Iraqi authorities to bring the organizers and sponsors of such terrorist acts to justice.
With Nigerians going to the polls in nationwide elections in a few hours, there are concerns over security and the regularity of polling. The head of the European Union's Observer Mission, Max van den Berg, told the BBC very few observers had received their accreditation cards and would doubt so over whether voters had been registered correctly. “We have seen samples where citizens' faces were not in or people look clearly under the age of eighteen. So there are questions there.The National observers ,they say we are blocked because accreditation cards were not delivered or very few, that means that a lot of them, we were talking about ten to thirty thousand people might not be allowed to enter in the polling station.” Meanwhile,there is heavy security in the northern city of Carlo after a living militant Islamic cleric, Husdaz Jaf Adam was shot dead on Friday.
The White House has said that it expects the beleaguered World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz to remain in his position despite being criticized by the executive board of the bank for arranging a highly-paid promotion for his girlfriend. Speaking at a news conference, a white house spokesperson, Dana Perino, , said President Bush had full confidence in Mr. Wolfowitz.
“President has full confidence in Paul Wolfowitz, He's done a remarkable job at the World Bank where they are working to lift people out of poverty from all around the world. He has apologized for the matter and his board is undergoing an internal review, and we expect him to remain as World Bank president.”
A senior member of Somalia’s transitional government has accused Ethiopian troops in the capital Mogadishu of committing genocide there. Its armed opposition to their presence has grown . The accusations came from Hussein Aideed, a former Somali warlord who is currently deputy prime minister of the transitional government, but he is becoming increasingly estranged from it. Ethiopia dismissed Mr. Aideed’s comments as an absolute fabrication.

The Democratic Party in the United States has responded with disbelief to an admission by the Bush administration that he deleted important emails which might have shed light on the controversial dismissal of eight federal prosecutors last year. The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Patrik Leahy asked the White House for a swift probe into the matter and said congress would also investigate.
Police in Britain are assessing whether the exiled Russian billionaire Boris Berezovsky committed any offence when he appeared to call for the violent overthrow of the Russian President Vlardir Putin. Mr. Berezovsky who is based in London said force was needed to bring about a change of government in Moscow. A British government spokesman said Britain deplored any attempt to overthrow the head of a sovereign state and expected anyone living in the country to obey its rules.
Venezuela's president Hugo Chaves says the health of the Cuban leader Fidal Castrol has continued to improve and he has informally taken back many of his official duties. President Castrol temporally transferred power to his brother nine months ago after undergoing intestinal surgery. From the Venezuelan capital Caracas,Jame Zane.
His close friend and political ally Hugo Chaves has given the world occasional updates. They stayed in regular touch and Mr Castrol recently called him on his radio show, when the two of them shared jokes and spoke about their revolutionary ideas. President Chaves now says Mr. Castrol has resumed some of his duties. He added that he’s gaining strength everyday.
The Palestinian Prime Minister spokesman Gazi Hamas says the security forces are continuing to work night and day for the release of the BBC correspondent in Gaza Alan Johnston. He has been missing for more than a month and is presumed to have been kidnapped. Speaking to Algeria television he suggested more information was reaching Palestinian officials.
