The announcement follows reports of a missile attack earlier this week on a compound in a village in one of Pakistan's tribal areas. Pakistani counter-terrorism officials have described al-Libi whose name means the Libyan as an Al-Qaeda spokesman and commander in eastern Afghanistan. Early last November he had appeared in a video with Al-Qaeda's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahiri. Although his death will undoubtedly be a major setback to Al-Qaeda in the short term, the organization has proved remarkably resilient to the loss of key leaders.

Miss Bruni has demanded three quarters of a million dollars while Mr. Sarkozy has filed a claim for a symbolic one Euro. From Paris Hue Scofield.
The advertisement appeared in French newspapers earlier this week as part of a Ryanair promotion for cut price fares.
