set on fire焚烧;纵火,引起点火或燃烧

例句:Two passenger cars were set on fire outside the hotel.
       酒店外面,两个轿车烧了起来。

       I think we've walked past the one that's been set on fire.
       我认为,我们刚从一个情绪激动的人旁边经过。

torch也是点燃的意思。在前后两个句子中使用不同的词来表示同样的意思,避免重复。

2.Officials say a Nigerian man had aroused suspicions by locking himself in the toilet on board.
 
rise,raise,arise,arouse区别

 “rise” 是不及物动词,过去式为rose,过去分词为risen,其基本词义“上升,上涨”。

● The sun rises in the east.

● A good idea rose in my mind. “raise” 是及物规则动词,“举起,提高”。

● He raised his voice to make himself heard.

● The boy can raise the heavy stone.

“arise”,是不及物动词,过去式为arose,过去分词arisen,其语义为“出现,发生” 。

● His curiosity arose due to the question his mother asked.

 “arouse”是及物动词,过去式和过去分词为aroused,其语义为“唤醒,引起”

accuse charge区别

accuse:普通用词,正式或非正式场合,私人或法律上均可用。被指控的情节可轻可重。常与of连用。

charge:常与accuse换用,但charge多指较严重的错误或罪行,而且往往向法庭提出正式起诉。
