The Russian president Vladimir Putin says his country must do everything it can to eradicate theproblem of doping in sport. He was responding to areport released on Monday by the World Anti-doping Agency outlining what itcalled a state supported program of cheating in Russian athletics.Here's Richard Conway. “An immediate aftermath of the highly critical WADA reportinto doping, Russian authorities reacted by saying the allegations werefictional, but a distinct change of tone is now evident withthe country's president Vladimir Putin pledging full cooperation withanti-doping organizations and promising an internal inquiry. Mr. Putin argues that responsibility for cheating in sport is not just aproblem for his country and that clean athletes shouldn't be punished because of thecrimes of those who've doped.”

African leaders attending a summit in Malta with their European counterparts have called on Europe to cooperate in the way it dealswith African migrants reaching its shores rather than dictate a solution. NkosazanaDlamini Zuma is the head of the African Union. “Theproblem that we are facing today is in part becausesome countries in Europe have taken a fortress approach. There is no part ofthe world that can be a fortress. Africa and Europe should be discussingbeyond robbery materials, beyond trade, but industrialization,because that's what to create jobs.” European commission hasoffered 2 billion dollars to enable Africangovernment to make improvements that would discourageAfricans from making the perilous journey across the Mediterranean.

Sweden says it will impose temporaryborder controls in response to the record number of migrants mainly from theMiddle East reaching their country. The interior ministersaid police had warned that the surging arrivals posed a threat to public order.

The regional government of Catalonia said it would push aheadwith a resolution to break away from Spain despite of the suspension ofthe secession process by the constitutional court. Earlier the court agreed to hear the Spanish government's appeal against the motion.This report from David Bamfort. “Supporting Catalonia for breaking away fromSpain has been growing and it reached a high point this week when the Catalanparliament passed a motion to create an independent state within 18 months.That's prompted the Madrid government to appeal tothe constitutional court to intervene. The court has now agreed to hear Madrid's case in effect suspendingCatalonia's plans and warning its officials of legal action ifthey disobey. But the Catalans are defiant. A UN conference has reached a landmark to learn using radiofrequencies to track airliners in a hope of avoiding a repeat of the disappearing of a Malaysianplane last year. The agreement allows aircraft that already sent signalsto ground stations to direct them towards satellite.Officials said the change will enable real time tracking of aircraft anywherein the world. The Malaysian airliner disappeared with almost 240 people onboard exposing weaknesses in worldwide air navigation systems.

The Afghan President Ashraf Ghani promisedto avenge the deaths of 7 members of the Hazara ethnic minority following a direprotest in Kabul. Mr.Ghani said the government will target Islamic state, the Taliban or any othermilitant group which was responsible. He was speaking after tens of thousands of people joined a protest at which the coffins of 7 victims werecarried to the presidentialpalace.

A rare blue moon diamond weighing over 12 carats was sold at auction in Geneva for48.5 million dollars. The auction house Sotheby’s saidit was world record price for a gem stone at auction. The cushion shape diamond was purchased by aprivate collector from HongKong. David Benet of Sotheby’s called the diamondmagical. “For me the blue moon is always theblue diamond of my career. I have never seen more beautiful, the shape, thecolor, the purity. It's a magical stone. And everybody I think who put it on your finger thought so.”

Astronomers say they've identified the most distant objectyet in the solar system, the icy rocky body of some 15 billionkilometers from the sun about three times further away than even farflung Pluto.
