Talks have resumed on a possible US-North Korea summit in what the BBC correspondent in Seoul calls a series of attempts to get the meeting back on track. Officials from the two countries are meeting in the demilitarized zone between the Koreas for talks expected to last several days.

Markets have reacted favorably after a coalition of populists and far-right parties failed in its attempts to form a new government in Italy. Its efforts foundered after President Sergio Mattarella refused to accept a Financial Minister opposed to Italy’s membership of the Euro.

There has been a sharp criticism of the possibility of Syria taking over the presidency of the UN conference on disarmament. The organization oversees the ban on the chemical weapons which Syria has been accused of using.

The head of Kenya’s National Youth Services has been arrested in connection with a multibillion dollar corruption case. President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised action against corruption but few senor officials have been arrested since he took office in 2013.

The United States has made public the names of 6 South Sudanese officials who it says are complicit in the country’s civil war. They are accused of obstructing peace efforts and hampering the delivery of aid. And they include the Defense and Information ministers.

Brazil has cut the price of diesel fuel in an attempt to end a strike by lorry drivers. The week-long industrial action has brought the country to a standstill.

Police in South Korea are questioning the wife of the Korean Airline’s chief of allegations that she abused employees. She is the third member of the family to be accused of such behavior.

And scientists say captive dolphins appear to enjoy interactions with familiar humans rather than ones they do not know. They say the findings emphasize the importance of animal-human bonds. But experts warn they do not show that animals would be happy in captivity than in the wild.
