Saudi-led forces have begun a threatened assault to force Houthi rebels out of Yemen's main port Hodeida. Reports say rebel positions are being bombarded from the air and sea. The port is the main entry point for humanitarian aid on which over seven million Yemenis depend.

State media in North Korea is reporting that President Trump has pledged to lift sanctions against the North when relations improve. The commitment was not included in the brief written statement that both leaders signed following direct talks in Singapore on Tuesday.

Japan has expressed concern about President Trump's announcement that the United States is expanding its joint military exercises with South Korea. The Japanese Defense Minister said the maneuvers played an important role in the region's security.

Researchers in Britain say middle-aged people with slightly raised blood pressure are at higher risk of developing dementia. A study of almost nine thousand people finds that a systolic blood pressure reading of 130 give a 45% greater risk of dementia.
