There has been violence on the fringes of a largely peaceful mass protest in the Spanish city of Barcelona against the jailing earlier this week of Catalan separatist leaders. Riot police fired tear gas at youth who set up a burning barricade. The Spanish interior minister warned those responsible for violence could face up-to six years in prison.

A federal court in New York has found the brother of president of Honduras guilty of drug trafficking charges. Antonio Hernandez was arrested last year in Miami. Prosecutors accused him of using his Honduran government connections to smuggle 200 tons of cocaine into the U.S.

The Mexican leader Andrés Manuel López Obrador has defended his decision to free a son of the jailed drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán. He said many lives have been saved as a result. The arrest of Ovidio Guzmán López led to ferocious street battles.

The World Health organization says the Ebola virus in the democratic republic of Congo remains a public health emergency of international concern. But he said the epidemic was being contained within specific regions.

The British prime minister Boris Johnson has made a last-minute appeal to MPs to support his Brexit deal in the vital parliamentary vote on Saturday. He said no better outcome was available. Event could be complicated by a move to postpone any final approval for the deal until it's passed all of its parliamentary stages.

The Bulgarian football team's head coach Borislav Mihaylov has resigned following the racist abuse of the England player during a match in Sofia on Monday. Play was stopped twice after some Bulgarian fans taunted England black players.

And the first all women spacewalk have taken place. The U.S astronaut Christina Koch and Jessica Meir replaced 40 equipment on the outside of international space station.
