Hello, I'm David Harper with the BBC News.

Carbon emissions across the world are set to rebound this year to levels last seen before the coronavirus pandemic.

The Global Carbon Budget report suggests the window is closing for countries to avert dangerous climate change.

Here is Paul Rincon.

A report by climate scientists found that carbon dioxide releases this year will rise by almost the same amount they fell by in 2020 when countries locked down for the pandemic.

It's a big surprise for researchers who thought there would be a more gradual recovery in emissions.

The findings pose a challenge for efforts to limit global warming to 1.5 Celsius, the threshold for dangerous climate change.

If we continue as we are, the experts say, we could exceed that limit in 11 years.

But they argue we can still prevent that from happening if governments can make ambitious pledges at summits such as Glasgow and keep to them.

Research in England has provided the first evidence worldwide that vaccination can drastically reduce cases of cervical cancer in women.

James Gallagher has more detail.

More than 99% of cervical cancers are linked to human papilloma viruses.

Immunization started in schools in 2008. Now those peoples are in their 20s, and the real world data is in.

The study published in the Lancet looked only at England, but showed an 87% fall in cervical cancer after vaccination was introduced.

Cancer Research UK said the findings were of historic importance, although this is not the final verdict as there are still questions about how long protection lasts and whether a mid-life booster is needed.

The incumbent Democratic governor of the American state of New Jersey is predicted to have narrowly won reelection for a second time.

Phil Murphy fought off his Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli by less than 1% of the votes.

David Willis reports.

Phil Murphy's apparently wafer-thin victory over former state lawmaker Jack Ciattarelli took more than a day to decide in a state where registered Democratic voters outnumber Republicans by more than 1 million.

Coupled with Republican newcomer Glenn Youngkin's victory over Terry McAuliffe in Virginia, it represents a stunning loss of support for the Democrats in states which Joe Biden won comfortably just a year ago,

and could bode ill for the party in next year's mid-term elections, where control of Congress and the fate of Mr Biden's ambitious legislative agenda will be at stake.
