FIFA and the Sony Corporation will film 25 matches, including the quarterfinals, semifinals and final, with seven pairs of Sony's professional HDC cameras.

For viewers at home, equipped with a 3D TV like this 50-inch Panasonic and a pair of 3D glasses, the experience can begin.

John Kempner, a vision buyer in a department store, explains that most TVs come with a pair of 3D glasses.

"So when they buy the TV, they will come, in most cases with the pair of glasses as well. This is the one that comes with the Panasonic TV, so they're quite functional and you get two pairs of these when you buy the Panasonic. With the Samsung TV, these don't come in the box, but these are the glasses you need and when you buy a Blu Ray pair, then you get these as well, two pairs of these at the same time. They're the Samsung ones."

At the moment there is no standardized signal for 3D glasses yet. This poses a problem for the wider 3D glasses market, because it's not clear what will become the dominant signal in the future.

3D is slowly but surely creeping into all different areas of entertainment in our lives. With more and more need for 3D glasses, it's only a question of time before more fashionable models hit the stores.

Greg MacGillivray, director of the latest 3D film, "Arabia 3D," says that sunglasses brands will probably launch their own 3D models in the future. But he adds that there will never be multi-functional sun- and 3D glasses.

"When you go into a 3D movie, you need to have as much light coming to your eyeball as you possibly can. So you don't need that extra filtration that comes with ultraviolet and other lens filtering that you have for the sunshine."

In order to watch 3D TV, you need active shutter speed glasses - at least at the moment. But David Burder, technical director of a company specializing in all things 3D, says he thinks the future of 3D viewing will be glass-less.

"I think the future of 3D is not in hardware, glasses. I'm sure they're going to discover something in the brain which will automatically decode a signal that actually transmits a left and a right signal."

With the World Cup being broadcast in 3D and more and more 3D content being produced, it is only a question of time until personalized 3D glasses are everyday accessories.
