In their previous three meetings, Sharapova walked off with three victories. But this time the table was turned around.
The big-hitting 15th-seeded German broke Sharapova's serve three times in the first set and once early in the second, not allowing the Russian any chance to come back. The score, 6-4, 6-3.
"It's just unbelievable, you know. For the third time, I've beaten the French Open Champion here. I'm just so happy. I've lost three previous meeting against her. Now I just played well. I fought to the last point. The last game was tough but I fought it out I'm just happy."
Lisicki will face compatriot 8th-seeded Angelique Kerber, who smashed Belgian veteran Kim Clijsters 6-1, 6-1 to reach the quarter finals.
Defending champion Czech Petra Kvitova came from one set down to oust Francesca Schiavone of Italy 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 to reach the quarter finals. 2nd-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus powered past Ana Ivanovic of Serbia 6-1, 6-0. Four-time champion Serena Williams beat Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-1, 2-6, 7-5. 3rd-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland saw off Camila Giorgi of Italy 6-2, 6-3. 37th-ranked Austrian Tamira Paszek, the champion at Eastbourne in the week leading up to Wimbledon, beat Roberta Vinci of Itlay 6-2, 6-2. And 17th-seeded Maria Kirilentko of Russia defeated 30th-seeded Peng Shuai of China 6-1, 7-6, 6-3.
In men's singles, defending champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia eased past compatriot Viktor Troicki 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 to reach the last eight. 3rd-seeded Roger Federer of Switzerland defeated Xavier Malisse of Belgium 7-6, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. And Russia's Mikhail Youzhny outperformed Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the first time.
Five matches including the one between Croatia's Marin Cilici and Britain's Andy Murray were suspended or canceled because of rain.
