费德勒七夺温网冠军

2012-07-10来源:CRI

Federer and Murray had to employ all their skill on court as this match held an important meaning to both players.

And it's the Swiss maestro that eventually beat the British hopes. Federer managed to hold his nerves and come from one set down to claim the victory 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.

It's his 17th major title. With the win, Federer ties Pete Sampras with seven Wimbledon titles. He also regained the No. 1 ranking which broke Sampras' record of 286 weeks as the top-ranked player.

Federer Won 7th Wimbledon Champion

"The Wimbledon Gentlemen Singles Champion 2012: Roger Federer."

"I think I played some of my best tennis in the last couple of matches. I couldn't be more happy. It feels great being back as the winner. It feels so familiar. I obviously missed playing in the finals. It's just a great moment. It equals me with Pete Sampras who's my hero. It just feels amazing."

And Murray just couldn't hold back his tears when speaking in front of the 15,000-strong crowd.

"I'm getting closer. I was getting asked the other day after I won my semi-final. It was like 'oh, this is your best chance. You know Roger is 30 now'. He's not bad for a 30-year-old. He played a great tournament. I know he had some struggles early on with his back and showed what fight he still had in himself."

Murray also has made history to become the first Briton to enter the Wimbledon men's singles final in the Open Era.
