交通运输部:确保假期运输畅通

2012-09-23来源:CRI

During the 8-day Mid-Autumn and National Day holiday, sedans will for the first time be free to travel on expressways. Car travels will thus become a choice for more people, which will be a big challenge to the road network. Spokesman of the Ministry of Transport, He Jianzhong, says there is a plan in place to avert traffic jams.

"We will monitor the road network, publicize the information on road conditions, weather, and traffic control, as well as the information about the toll free roads, so people can choose their route well.We have already clearly required toll stations to set up temporary traffic signs and markings, while extra staff will be drafted to coordinate the field control and to direct the traffic."

During the holidays, passenger flow volume will surge, therefore the traffic risk will increase.

Ministry of Transport Vows to Ensure a Safe and Smooth Traffic

He Jianzhong says the Ministry has sent six safety inspection teams to 12 provinces. So far, China has more than 30 thousand long-distance sleepers and serve 180 million people annually.

The Ministry of Transport will take strict measures to monitor and control transport.

"Fatigue driving is an important thing that we need to prevent those drivers in long-distance passenger transport. We will strictly urge drivers to take a break between 2am to 5am. Drivers should have a rest after a stop, and transport routes over one thousand kilometers must have a rest station. These regulations will be mandatory and serve as a requirement to approve the routes."

The spokesman also says that the Ministry will keep strengthening controls on long-distance passenger transport, and video-monitoring of drivers' behaviour.
Long-distance vehicles will also be required to install GPS to allow detection and therefore to discourage illegal behaviour.
