Renowned Chinese actor/director Jiang Wen has started a strong publicity campaign to promote his new film "Gone with the Bullets", three months before its opening in theatres.

The new film is a 3-D sequel to Jiang's 2010 blockbuster "Let the Bullets Fly", which grossed more than 100 million US dollars in domestic box office receipts.

The sequel, "Gone with the Bullets", is set in 1920s Shanghai and revolves around a beauty pageant.

Jiang is also the first Chinese director to shoot a film with an IMAX 3-D digital camera.

During a press meeting, Jiang expressed his desire and confidence of competing at the Oscars.

"If the Film bureau recommends you, then you can apply to the Oscars. I'd like to make the call on behalf of them. I recommend the film. But they may not listen to me. Of course I'd recommend my film. Which other movie is capable of competing at the Oscars on behalf of China?"

Actor Wen Zhang made his first public appearance after admitting to an extramarital affair.

He also talked briefly about his life after the scandal. These are his first public comments on the matter.

"I thought a lot about my work and life during these days. I think I've calmed down and my family life and my work have gone back to normal."

"Gone with the Bullets" stars Ge You, Zhou Yun and Taiwan's Shu Qi.

Dancers from Broadway and crews from more than 40 countries have participated in the production.

The film will hit Chinese screens on December 18.
