日本企业利用乌冬面发电

A Japanese company has now found a way to generate power by turning the country's Udon noodles waste into electricity.

Famous for udon noodles, Kagawa Prefecture on Japan's Shikoku Island wastes about 1,000 tons of the chewy noodles during the production process.

A local manufacturing company named Chiyoda has recently developed a new method to extract ethanol from the unwanted noodles.

The ethanol then can be fermented to produce methane gas, a fuel to generate electricity.

Tetsuo Ozaki is a technological developer in the company.

"One thousand five hundred kilograms of udon noodles can produce 200 liters of ethanol, and the residue can then be processed to drive a 25-kilowatt generator to produce 600 kilowatt-hours of power a day."

Generating power from bio-organic sources has become more and more popular in Japan.

Now, many udon noodle producers around Japan are planning to incorporate udon-power projects into their business models.
