A Florida beach trip left a teenage boy with painful hookworm infections all over his feet, according to reports.

Michael Dumas, 17, was on a mission trip last month to Pompano Beach where he and other teens spent a day relaxing and enjoying the sun, news station WMC-TV reported.

While at the beach, Michael was buried by friends in the sand, where he became infested with parasitic worms, according to the news station.

“He was buried in the sand for fun and it has become our nightmare,” his mom Kelli Mulhollen Dumas wrote on Facebook.

The teen developed painful, itchy rashes soon after the beach visit.

He visited a doctor who determined that he had multiple hookworms living under his skin, including one that was three inches long, according to the news station.

His mom said he was treated with four different medications, which cost in total more than $1,300.

The family is now warning others about the dangers of the beach.

“He is in pain and this is AWFUL,” the mom wrote on Facebook. “Never be buried in sand or allow your children to be either!”
