Investigators in the Virginia Tech shootings are looking for a connection between Seung-Hui Cho and one of his first victims. They are examining Emily Hilscher’s laptop and cellphone. She was one of the first students killed in the dorm. Meanwhile, Cho's family is apologizing for the shootings that killed 32 people.

NASA is conducting a security review after two people were killed in a hostage standoff at the Johnson Space Centre in Huston. Police say a male worker armed with a handgun entered the space centre and used it to kill another man before killing himself. A female hostage was not hurt.

Dozens of people are dead and many more wounded in fresh fighting in Somalia. Reuters quotes witnesses as saying “more than 70 people were killed today in the capital of Mogadishu in the escalating war between Islamic militants and allied Somali and Ethiopian troops.

Dry conditions and gusty winds are fueling wildfires that have charred nearly 58 square miles of forest in southeastern Georgia. Forestry officials say southward winds kept the largest fire from spreading toward Waycross of the city with more than 15,000 people. That blaze covers about 35,000 acres. Officials say the fire was started Monday when a tree fell on a power line. The fire has destroyed 18 homes so far. Officials say now it's about 35 percent contained.

Another company is recalling some of its pet food products this time over rice protein contaminated with melamine. Royal Canin is recalling five types of widely available dry dog food. A statement on the company website says it will no longer buy any vegetable proteins from any Chinese suppliers. And the original recalls were made after contaminated wheat gluten from China was found in some pet foods. More than a hundred brands of pet food have now been recalled.
