Coast Guard crews are searching for 58 migrants after a boat capsized this morning. The Coast Guard says the Haitian vessel overturned while being towed by police to the Turks and Caicos Islands. About 20 bodies have been spotted. Dozens of other migrants have been rescued.
Police have released details of the accident that killed the St. Louis Cardinals pitcher, Josh Hancock last weekend. Police say he was drunk at the time of the fatal accident. Plus marijuana was found in the SUV he was driving. He was talking on a cell phone at the time and driving about 13 miles over the speed limit. Hancock hit the back of a flatbed tow truck and died instantly of head injuries. He was 29 years old.
The cost of gas is draining even more money out of your wallet. AAA now says that the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded $3.01. That cost's nearing a record. Just a month ago, that average gallon was 31 cents less.
The government says unemployment went up slightly to 4.5% in April and only 88,000 new jobs were created last month. This new tally of jobs added to the economy was the fewest since 65,000 jobs in November 2004. One employment analyst says the numbers only suggest a cooling off period in the job market and that job seekers will have stronger resumes in an increasingly conservative hiring cycle.
British Royalty and American history come in together today in Jamestown, Virginia. The Queen of England is there observing the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in America. Vice President Dick Cheney accompanied her Majesty. Elizabeth II will also visit the college of William and Mary and that is on to Kentucky for the Derby tomorrow.
