From the cnn center in Atlanta, I'm Cory Kessler with a look at what's happening Now In The News.

An early morning attack in Iraq turned fatal for at least 5 people in the US-led force. The soldiers were killed while patrolling a region southwest of Baghdad, near the town of Mahmoudiya. The military is now searching for 3 other soldiers who were in the group. An Iraqi interpreter was with the Americans. It is not known whether that person was killed or is missing as well.

Parts of 2 major interstates are shut down in Florida because of a wildfire along the Florida-Georgia border. The 212,000-acre blaze has closed portions of I-10 and I-75 near Lake City, Florida. Police say flames and smoke from the fire simply make it too dangerous to be on the road. They're asking drivers to avoid Lake City if possible. Authorities have not said when they expect to reopen those 2 interstate highways.

In California, about 4,000 residents are now being allowed to come back to Catalina Island. Visitors are barred until further notice. The 2-day-old fire is only about 35 percent contained but firefighters say it is isolated in an unpopulated area. There is still no word yet on the cause of the fire. Investigators believe it may have been started accidentally by workmen.

Individual colleges and departments at Virginia Tech handed out diplomas in small ceremonies today. Today's proceedings followed yesterday's big commencement service. Nearly 5,000 graduate and undergraduate students received their degrees. The students killed in last month's massacre received theirs as well.

Talk Show hostess and actress Oprah Winfrey addressed the thousands of Harvard University graduates who picked up their diplomas. Winfrey who received an Honorary Doctor was today's keynote speaker. She thanked the school for bestowing her with the honor and encouraged this year's class to continue pushing for success long after graduation.

And there you have it, you are now up-to-date. cnn is your source for the latest headlines on line on TV, or of course on your wireless gadget. I'm Cory Kessler and we thank you for logging on.
