Hello, I'm Melissa Long at the cnn center here in Atlanta with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

In the overhauling immigration, key Democrats and Republicans cut a deal to change the nation's immigration laws. The plan will clear the way for some 12 million illegal immigrants already living in the US to become legal. That's after they pay a 5,000-dollar fine. There is criticism coming from both sides of the aisle. President Bush likes the plan. Congress begins debating the bill on Monday.

The uncle of one of the soldiers ambushed in Iraq last weekend tells cnn radio that his nephew was killed in that attack. That means Sergeant Anthony Schober of Reno, Nevada is the fourth soldier confirmed dead from Saturday's ambush. US military officials in the meantime, are cautiously optimistic that three soldiers that went missing that same day are alive. They say they have a number of leads suggesting that, including some physical evidence. An al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist group claims to have abducted the soldiers.

Senate Democrats plan a no-confidence vote as early as next week against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Five Republicans have now joined in the call for him to resign. And it's not just about how we handled the firings of several US prosecutors. Many were shocked by the revelation that Gonzales had gone to his predecessor's hospital bed to pressure him to renew the president's eavesdropping program. Then Attorney General John Ashcroft was in intensive care at the time. The White House is dismissing the possible no-confidence vote as a meaningless political act.

Things may get a little more challenging for crews battling a large wildfire along the Florida-Georgia State line. Wind and rising temperatures are in the forecast this weekend.
