Hello, I am Melissa Long here at the cnn center in Atlanta with a look at what’s happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Twelve people were killed inside a busy central Baghdad hotel when a suicide bomber blew himself up today. The former governor of Anbar province is among the dead. He was at the hotel for a tribal leadership meeting.

The father of a BBC correspondent who has been held hostage in Gaza since March says he is most concerned and distressed about a video that appeared on the Internet last night. It shows his son right there Alan Johnston wearing what appears to be an explosive vest. Johnston says a military attempt to free him would cause his captors to set off the explosives.

Tony Blair is winding down his last few hours as British Prime Minister. Gordon Brown officially became the leader of Britain’s Labor Party on Sunday succeeding Mr. Blair. He will step down as British Prime Minister and Brown will officially take that office on Wednesday.

An 18-year-old Alaska high schooler lost his fight against the principal who suspended him for unfurling a Bong Hits 4 Jesus banner. The teen argued the suspension violated his free speech rights. Today the Supreme Court disagrees saying those who view the banner would interpret it as a pro-drug statement which violates school policy. The teen unfurled the banner on a sidewalk across the street from the school as part of the prank.

The multi-million dollar civil suit linked to these pants has been dismissed. A Washington judge claimed the dry cleaner had lost a pair of pants that he sent in for cleaning and alterations and then tried to pull a switcheroo. He sued for 54 million dollars. He lost, and was ordered to pay the court costs for the day dry cleaners in the Washington D.C. area.
