Japan has been hit by a second strong earthquake in the Sea of Japan near Kyoto. The initial quake had triggered a fire at the world's largest nuclear power plant and a leak of radioactive water. Seven people were killed in the initial quake. More than 800 people injured. The quake collapsed homes and buckled roads.

Britain plans to expel 4 Russian diplomats in retaliation for Moscow's refusal to extradite a suspect in the murder of Alexander Litvinenko. Andrei Lugovoi is accused of poisoning the former KGB agent. Britain also plans to suspend visa negotiations with Russia, and is reviewing cooperation on other issues.

The leader of Los Angeles Roman Catholic Archdiocese has apologized for sexual abuse by priests. Cardinal Roger Mahony made a statement on Sunday. And today, the Los Angeles Archdiocese is expected to announce a 660, 000, 000-dollar settlement between the archdiocese and lawyers for hundreds of alleged abuse victims.

With his execution scheduled for tomorrow, lawyers for a Georgia death row inmate are trying to get the state to spare his life. Troy Davis was convicted in 1989 in the fatal shooting of an off duty Savannah police officer. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles is hearing claims that Davis was convicted based on mistaken identity and coercion by investigators. Prosecutors say the conviction should be upheld.

Well, next time you fill up, dig a little deeper in your wallet. You have to dig a little deeper. The average price of a gallon of gas is now 6 cents higher than it was just a couple of weeks ago. A Lundberg Survey reports of paying about $3. 06 a gallon for regular gas. It blames Midwest flooding in part for the increase. High water shut down two refineries in Indiana and Kansas.
