Hey, there. I'm Virginia Cha at the cnn Center in Atlanta. And here is a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
Senator Larry Craig contends he did nothing wrong even though the Idaho Republican pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge involving an incident in an airport men's room. The Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call (Roll Call is the "hometown newspaper" of Capitol Hill) says Craig was arrested by a plain-clothes officer investigating complaints of lewd conduct at the Minneapolis Airport on June 11th.
Iraqi forces are evacuating hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from the holy city of Karbala after gun battles marred a major religious commemoration. Officials say at least 26 people were killed in two days of street fighting between members of a Shiite militia and Iraqi Security Forces.
The South Korean government says it has secured a deal for the release of 19 South Koreans held hostage in Afghanistan for more than a month. A presidential spokesman cautions though that many of the details still have to be worked out. The agreement did not include paying the captors nor releasing any Taliban prisoners.
A string of deadly wildfires is burning up the Greek landscapes. So far at least 63 people have been killed, many of them caught up in the very flames they were trying desperately to escape. One mother's remains were found clutching her four children not far from their house which in a heartbreaking twist was left untouched by the fire.
Six thousand Robbie Duckie kids watering cans made in China and sold in the US are being recalled. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission says the beaks on the cans contain, you probably guessed it, lead paint. The watering cans have been sold at Jo-Ann Fabric Stores since February. No injuries have been reported. Lead, of course, can be dangerous if swallowed by young kids. If your child has one of these watering cans, just return it to any Jo-Ann Store for a full refund.
Those are the headlines at this hour. Stay with cnn for a whole lot more on those stories and other news of the day. We thank you for watching.
