Good afternoon, I'm Melissa Long here at the cnn center in Atlanta with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Several Republican sources tell cnn that Republican Senator Larry Craig of Idaho may resign possibly as soon as today. Craig is under fire over his June arrest in a Minneapolis Airport men's room. In police tapes released yesterday, the senator accuses the arresting officer of entrapment. He also denies signaling interest in a sexual encounter. Senator Craig pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge. He now calls that it's a big mistake.

President Bush waded into the sub-prime lending mess today and offered to help struggling mortgage holders. Among the ideas the president put forth was a proposal to modernize the Federal Housing Administration. The markets reacted favorably to the comments from the president and a hint also from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke today that the Central Bank might take steps to help lenders.

The White House says Press Secretary Tony Snow will step down September 14th. He's been undergoing treatment for cancer. The White House says Snow will be replaced by his deputy Dana Perino.

World Wrestling Entertainment has suspended 10 wrestlers for violating its policy forbidding use of steroids and other drugs. A New York prosecutor is investigating allegations of illegal steroids sales. But the wrestlers have not been identified publicly.

A solemn ceremony in London for the woman many refer to as the people's princess. The life of Diana, Princess of Wales, was celebrated at a memorial service near Buckingham Palace today 10 years after she was killed in a car crash in Paris. There were other memorials in London as well. Harriod's department store observed 2 minutes of silence in honor of Diana. Harriods is owned by Mohamed al Fayed, father of Dodi al Fayed, who died along with Diana.
