Good afternoon, I’m Melissa Long at the cnn center in Atlanta with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

A Nevada judge has granted O.J. Simpson’s request for bail, pending his trial on charges ranging from conspiracy to kidnapping. Simpson and three other men are accused of barging into a Las Vegas hotel room last weekend and taking several items of sports memorabilia at gunpoint. Simpson will be released while he awaits trial. Simpson did not enter a plea to the charges. he is scheduled for another court appearance October 22nd.

The former astronaut accused of attacking a romantic rival had a court appearance in Orlando, Florida this morning. Lisa Nowak’s attorney wants the judge to toss out her arrest interview with police, and any evidence found in her vehicle. He says the mother of three was not advised of rights and never consented to the search. A police detective disputes that. Nowak has pleaded not guilty to an attempted kidnapping, battery, and burglary charges.

Iraq's Prime Minister has called on the US government to end its contract with BlackWater USA saying the company is (quote) ”careless with Iraqi lives”. US and Iraqi authorities are investigating a shootout involving BlackWater, the private security firm that protects US officials in Iraq. BlackWater guards say they came under attack. But the Iraqi government says they fired indiscriminately and killed 20 civilians.

An enormous explosion shook a suburb of Beirut today(. A)t least 5 people are dead including a member of Lebanon’s Parliament. That Member of Parliament belong to a vocal anti-Syrian Party in Lebanon. Police believe he was the target of the blast and are treating the explosion as an assassination. It’s just a few days before important Lebanese parliamentary elections to choose a new president.

The Israeli Security Cabinet has declared Hamas controlled Gaza a (quote)" hostile entity". The move allows Israel to disrupt vital electricity and fuel shipments to the Palestinian territory. But the ministers voted not to disrupt the water supply. It would be the most severe retaliation Israel has taken against near-daily rocket attacks from Gaza. Hamas called the decision, a declaration of war.
